SPANISH LOW-COST AIRLINE, Vueling Airlines announces a service to Paris from Shannon airport.

From September 12, the Shannon-Paris link will operate twice a week with flights to Paris Orly airport on Mondays and Fridays.

In what is seen as a huge coup for Shannon giving access to a major European hub with Orly Airport, the closest airport to central Paris, just 13km from the City of Lights. It is the second largest airport in France and offers hub connectivity with connections to major European cities and countries in the Middle East.

This represents further momentum for Shannon Airport’s pandemic recovery, which will now see the airport operate 27 services to the US, UK and Europe.

Securing a link with Paris has been an aspiration of Shannon Group management for some time. In November 2019 Aer Lingus announced routes from Shannon to Paris and Barcelona which were due to start in May and March 2020 but never did due to COVID-19. The line to Charles de Gaulle was to run four times a week.

Shannon Group CEO Mary Considine said the destination would be exciting for passengers. “We are delighted to welcome our new carrier Vueling, part of IAG, to Shannon Airport. This service is another major boost for inbound and outbound business and tourism interests in the region. We have worked closely with Vueling to provide the service and look forward to seeing our passengers soar to this world famous city steeped in culture and history. Paris is one of the most popular cities in the world”.

Vueling has scheduled a total of 114 destinations in 31 countries until October 29, 2022 to reach a level of operation similar to 2019. “The new direct connection between Shannon airports and Paris Orly reinforces Vueling’s interest in offering a more flexible and varied offer to Ireland travelers,” said Carolyn Prowse, commercial director, strategy, customer and network at Vueling.

Shannon is the only State airport in Ireland to operate a faster security screening system, which is proving popular with passengers, eliminating the need to remove liquids, cosmetics and electronics from hand luggage, while halving dwell time through security.

Named the world’s most attractive city destination for 2021 in Euromonitor’s Top 100 City Destination Index, Paris is just a two-hour flight from Shannon Airport. The city is widely known as the European epicenter of culture, cuisine, fashion and style. Its magnificent boulevards, world famous sites, rich history and breathtaking architecture provide the backdrop for a truly memorable experience. From the Eiffel Tower to the Arc de Triomphe, via Disneyland Paris and river trips along the Seine, visitors will be spoiled for choice.
