Severin sponsors the annual collection of backpacks for friends

MARION – Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) announced his 2nd annual buddy backpack donation campaign to benefit children and other minors in emergency foster care.

“Backpacks for Buddies collected literally hundreds of filled backpacks for children in need during the campaign’s first year. We are so grateful to the people in my district who have reached out and supported.” , Severin said. “Too often, when children are taken from their homes and placed in emergency foster homes, they are forced to put their toiletries, clothes, blankets, toys and other personal comfort items in black garbage bags. for transportation. When I first heard of This, I couldn’t bear the thought, so my office launched an effort to help. We are proud to sponsor Buddy Backpacks again this year. “

The public can help by donating a new backpack. Fill the backpack with supplies or bring supplies to fill empty backpacks. Suggested donations include: toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, bar soap, feminine hygiene products, coloring and activity books, colored pencils, colored pencils, markers or any other item that would help make a child a little more comfortable.

Severin will be collecting “Backpacks for Buddies” at his Marion district office at 600 Halfway Road for the remainder of the year and into the next year.

Backpacks will be distributed to DCFS partners and southern Illinois child welfare agencies as they are received.
