Ludhiana Doctor Wins Prestigious Bone Cancer Fellowship: The Tribune India


Dr Anubhav Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopedics, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), this year received the ‘Bone Cancer Fellowship’ in Orthopedic Oncology Surgery (Bone Cancer) at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Research Center, New Delhi. The scholarship is awarded to the best talent available in the field. This year’s winner, Dr Anubhav, originally from Ludhiana, received his Masters in Orthopedic Surgery from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, and acquired advanced training and skills in orthopedic surgery from Maulana Azad Medical College ( LNJP Hospital), Delhi. Citing Dr Anubhav’s selection as a “boon” to the region, Dr Sandeep Puri, Director, DMCH, said from now on, patients should travel to Delhi or Mumbai for specialist treatment, but now that would soon be a thing of the past. Dr Anubhav Sharma said he has always strived for the best in his field and with this scholarship his dream has come true. He said the exposure he would get at the internationally renowned bone cancer institute would meet his career aspirations. It had given him a golden opportunity to serve the community.

New IDA team

Indian Dental Association (IDA), Ludhiana, team 2020-2021, successfully completed her term. The new team is now led by President Dr Ish Paul Singh and Honorary Secretary Dr Vikram Bali. Ludhiana, Honorary Treasurer, Dr Manish Kataria, Dr Parvinder Singh Baweja, Dr Sandeep Singh and Dr Parminder Singh Sidhu are also Vice-Chairs and Dr Charanpreet Singh Chugh is Co-Secretary. The president of the association said in his welcoming speech that the motto of the new team is to take IDA, Ludhiana, to new heights in 2022 and to organize more dental camps for the social awareness of residents.

Honored Urologist

Renowned urologist and transplant surgeon Baldev Singh Aulakh was praised by the Indian Urological Society (NZ) at an annual conference in New Delhi for his contribution to patient management, student education and social work in the field of urology and transplant surgery. He was also awarded the Marudhara Jodhpur Ration Award by the Urological Society. A former student of PGI, he was professor of urology and transplant surgery at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, in Ludhiana, before joining Aykai Hospital. Dr Aulakh has performed a large number of kidney transplants, kidney stone and kidney cancer operations, and prostate operations. The National Award Winning Book on Prostate Disease was written by Dr. Aulakh. He is also the founding president of the Gift of Life Organ Donation Awareness Society (GLODAS), a non-profit organization founded in 2008, which works tirelessly to promote awareness of organ donation in the state. – TNS
