CARY, NC (WRAL / CNN) – Armed robberies at luxury retailers have made headlines in major cities in recent weeks.
It seems that crimes are hitting small towns as well.
Nicole Denny, a store owner in suburban Raleigh, North Carolina, said thieves stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of handbags.
A security video inside J’adore Boutique shows the two thieves in action.
After stepping through the front door, they immediately walk behind the counter, carrying thousands of dollars worth of luxury handbags.
“Somewhere between $ 35,000 and $ 38,000 in handbags,” Denny said. Louie Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel are gone in 30 seconds.
This brazen crime is part of a recent wave of smash and grabs from coast to coast.
California is one of the states hardest hit by a wave of thefts.
Last month in the Bay Area, a group of thieves attacked a Nordstrom security guard before taking off with expensive goods.
“This Nordstrom that was hit is my hometown so it hit hard for me watching it. It’s just a shame, it’s a shame, ”Denny said.
She said her store has been a constant target for thieves, especially in recent weeks.
Customers make thousands of dollars in fraudulent credit card purchases, money lost for which she is obligated.
The losses take their toll on her, a single mother of two.
“My son made me sit down last night. He is 15 years old. He said, ‘Mom, I don’t like to see you like this,’ ”Denny said.
“Luckily I can (survive) because I’m smart and put the tough times aside,” she said. “Am I happy with it?” Am I glad I have to use my rainy day funds to provide criminal behavior so they can black market my bags and put money in their pockets? “
Police made no arrests in the crime.
