By Breaking Belize News Staff: This week a number of students returning to class in Belmopan did so with a brand new backpack donated by Belmopan City Council.

The Council, through Mayor Sharen Palacio’s office, organized a backpack drive and distributed the bags to students to make their first day back at school even more special.

“This is a priority for us at the council, as we place the utmost importance on the education and development of our young people as model citizens. To ensure this, we remain committed to being resourceful and supporting our young people to realize their full potential in every way possible,” the Council said.

The backpack reader is the result of a weekly meeting organized by Mayor Palacio, to learn about the concerns and urgent needs of the inhabitants of the city.

Following the distribution of the bags, Mayor Palacio encouraged the townspeople to continue attending the meetings at the town hall, in order to maintain an open flow of communication between the town and its residents.
