Collinsville school officials announced Wednesday that fans and visitors are prohibited from bringing backpacks, bags and purses to sporting events at the Collinsville High School stadium and gymnasium.

“This change is being made preemptively and out of an abundance of caution to provide the safest possible environment for our students, families and fans,” Collinsville Superintendent Dr. Mark B. Skertich said. “These changes implement policies similar to what other high schools, colleges and large halls require of their guests.”

All necessary bags – such as medically essential bags and diaper bags when accompanying a baby or toddler – will be subject to search by school and security personnel. Transparent bags are not allowed.

School officials said the guidelines and protocols are designed to provide a “safe, secure and positive experience” for student-athletes and spectators at events at Kahok Stadium and Vergil Fletcher Gymnasium.

The school district also requires that all elementary, middle and middle school students be accompanied to a game by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
