Albany Women’s Handbags Featured in Popular Soap

It manufactures wooden handbags, clutches, backpacks and travel bags.

Her handbags had been featured in local media and at Harlem Fashion Week at the Museum of the City of New York in 2019.

However, on January 28 and then March 1 and 2, two of her handbags were carried by actress Vernee Watson-Johnson, who plays Stella Henry in “General Hospital.”

In the first episode, Watson-Johnson’s character wore Kema’s Kishayna Ast Ankh bag, which features leather combined with the laser-cut and hand-sanded Key of Life handles.

The other episodes featured what Kema dubbed her “Aunt Stella” handbag, which is a floral, striped wooden bag with antique bronze hardware.

Since the bags appeared on the soap, she has seen a 65% increase in website visits and an 80% increase in wooden bag sales.

Kema’s Kreations operates out of incubator space at the Community Loan Fund Building, located in Albany. She is also a member of the Palette coworking community.

The best place to order from Kema’s Kreations is to visit their website, Shopkema.com.

Albany’s Center for Economic Growth helped Kema secure a $10,000 FuzeHub grant through CARES Act funding.
